The stove

Before starting either the oven or the cooktop, ensure that the stove is supplied with propane.

How to start the oven

  1. Open the smaller door below the oven door. (This door is hinged at the bottom. To open it, first lift the door vertically; then you should be able to swing it open.)

  2. Turn on the oven.

  3. Light the pilot light by holding a lit match to the back of the ignition chamber.

  4. Turn off the oven. The pilot light should remain lit.

How to start the cooktop

In theory, the burners on the cooktop are supposed to ignite automatically. In practice, this does not always occur. To ignite a burner manually, hold a lit match near the burner and turn the corresponding knob.

How to clean the cooktop

  1. Fill the sink with hot soapy water.

  2. Place the cooktop grates in the sink to soak.

  3. Spray the cooktop generously with a grill cleaner.

  4. Using a slightly wet piece of steel wool, scrub the cooktop. It may take 2-3 pieces of steel wool to scrub the cooktop thoroughly.

  5. Wipe the cooktop with a paper towel.

  6. Dry the cooktop with a tea towel that is near the end of its life (not a tea towel that is still used to dry dishes).

  7. Dry the cooktop crates and return them to the cooktop.

  8. Restart the burners as described in the preceding section.
