Solstice

The day of the summer solstice found us returning south to Bartlett Cove, where Mrs. The Captain and I would disembark, returning to Victoria and Toronto (respectively) by bus and a series of airplanes.

We got underway at 0930 and soon reached the north end of South Marble Island. Recalling the sea lions we'd glimpsed there during our journey up the bay, we killed the engine and sailed south along the island's west coast, hoping to see sea lions in greater numbers. We were not disappointed.

Entering Bartlett Cove, we saw dozens of sea otters, frolicking in the water as otters will.

We reached the dock at 1345. After refuelling the Merry Fortune and refilling her water tanks, we went out to the cove to anchor and enjoy a last round of martinis made by The Captain, naturally, and chilled by Glacier Bay ice. Then we rowed the dinghy in for dinner at Glacier Bay Lodge.

And the next day, I was gone.
